What is the best way to select the right fragrance or perfume for me?

A key to selection the best perfume or fragrance for you is to look for a scent that really complements your personality. If you’re rather shy and a bit of a wallflower, a bold aromatic and woody scent would probably not be best suited to you. Start off with testing lighter, softer, fresher scents, before moving over to the heavier, earthy tones. You may find that once you start testing fragrances, you selection will surprise you, in that you may not realise yet, the kind of aromas that appeal to you. If you have someone where you have admired their perfumes or cologne, then ask them the name of the fragrance and try it out for yourself. If it’s cologne, some manufacturers make a version perfume for men and perfume for women, or you could find that the very cologne you admire and that appeals to you, could be unisex perfume and perfect for you. Perfumes and fragrances don’t smell the same on everybody, and you may have to try a number of scents yourself before your find one that your truly enjoy and that accentuates your personality perfectly.

Gather a few sample fragrances at the local perfume shop and perhaps ask the counter assistant for advice. Always a good starting point though, is to test your skin for any allergies to perfumes or fragrances, or to the particular components used in the scents. Test a small patch on the inside of your arm and wait a few hours until you are certain no reaction has occurred, before proceeding with a full trial of tests. If you do react to any perfume, discuss this with the perfume counter assistant, who will be able to advise you on some alternatives. As you become more comfortable with choosing a fragrance, you may wish to source both a perfume for day wear, and one for evening, working from lighter softer fragrances, to heavier, musky aromas as the day progresses.
