Why do some women wear so much perfume?

They say the mark of a good perfume, is one that you cannot smell, but other’s can smell on you. The problem with this however, is that one might tend to continue to apply perfume, even though the fragrant aroma is still present, as it cannot be discerned by the wearer who thinks it has all but faded. The person will tend to apply it often, and because they then receive either compliments, or comments regarding the newly applied scent, they may get the impression that the only time anyone else smells the fragrance, is when they have just spritzed themselves. This may tend to become habit forming, with someone liberally spraying themselves with perfume without even realising that it is far too much and over the top.

Another reason may be that the person is aware of the amount they are using, but to avoid having to spray several times a day, opt for lashings of the perfume in the hope that it will be sufficient to last the entire day. As perfumes and fragrances are not anti-perspirants, they do not mask body odor and it would not be for this reason that a person would spray their perfume so generously. One can also become accustomed to the smell of the fragrance, and as such begins to apply more and more of the scent in order to pick up the aromas on themselves. Many people believe that if they cannot smell their perfume, then that indicates that no one else smells it either. This couldn’t be further from the truth. One could politely compliment the offending person on their fragrance, and advise them that their chosen scent is glorious and quite appealing, if not a bit overpowering. This might give them the necessary hint that applying a little less might be a good idea.
