Intrepid Travel Tours and Trips

Intrepid Travel has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1989. Back then, who would have known a company that began with two bearded backpackers, a typewriter and a kitchen table would eventually grow into the world's largest small-group adventure tour company, carrying over 100,000 travellers across the globe each year. And although we’re a bit larger these days – with 1,800 local staff based around the world and over 1,000 different trips across every continent (not to mention multiple kitchen tables) – our mission remains the same. We still get a kick out of responsible travel, small groups and very (very) big adventures.

Highlights of Italy in Winter

See a less crowded side of Italy on this winter adventure. Ah, Italia. It seems a little unfair that one country does food, architecture, art, history and the central social square so perfectly. It’s just a shame the rest of the world feels the same way! But while most associate Italy with summer, relatively mild winters make Italy the perfect place to visit during the off season. On this trip, you’ll see all the fabulous spots with far fewer tourists crowding the squares and clogging up the lines. Take in the crumbling ruins of Rome, whimsical Florence and the floating 15th century city of Venice in this diverse tour.

Cinque Terre: Hike, Bike & Kayak

Walk into a world that's a play of colourful houses and blue sea as you amble between the cliff top villages of the Cinque Terre. When entering this region of Italy, things can seem a little surreal. The houses are painted in vivid multi-coloured shades, the sea is brighter than the sky and the sun rains down so heavily that everything seems a little technicoloured – welcome to the Cinque Terre. Describing it as a gem of Italy is totally correct, but to be more specific, it would have to be an opal – a play of colours, mainly reflected by the blue of the sea, dotted with gold, pink and green houses. This is a rare jewel that changes with the light of the day, and is best explored on foot, by bike or by kayak to truly understand the natural beauty of this precious treasure.

Jordan: Women's Expedition

You see women wearing them, perhaps on the news or in your own city. But how many of these women do you know? Join this 8-day adventure in Jordan as we break the barriers of traditional tourism and discover sisterhood in this tiny desert nation. Spend a night in Wadi Rum and learn the ancient art of henna with traditional Bedouin ladies, and discover how kohl has been used for years not just as a beauty product but to protect the eyes from the harsh desert sands. Spend an afternoon at a local ladies-only beach, discover the Dead Sea, and visit stunning Petra. Learn the art of Arabic cooking in a local home with our female host, enjoy afternoon teas and gossip time with local women, and even meet a female shepherd and help milk her goats. The reason we’ve made this tour just for women is that, culturally, it’s just not possible for men to participate in a lot of the activities on this tour, and we want to offer the best opportunity possible for developing a deeper understanding of Middle Eastern women – with full respect for their traditional cultural values.
