Day 1: Welcome to Belize!

Start place: Belize City

Your trip begins in Belize City, Belize. Group members will need to arrive at the Belize City International Airport before 2pm. From here we will take a domestic flight to Dangriga, Belize, and then we will have a short drive to our jungle eco-resort. Bocawina Lodge is a spacious jungle resort nestled in the heart of the Mayflower Bocawina National Park. Once settled into our rooms, we have time to explore the grounds before dinner. After a group orientation, we will dine at the resort’s restaurant. Dinner included.
Domestic flight: 20 minutes; Driving: 30 minutes
Meals: D
Day 2: Zip-line through a jungle canopy and rappel from a waterfall.
Our morning begins with a hike up to stunning Antelope Falls. We climb to the top of the 1,000’ falls, passing through lush rainforest and learning about the flora and fauna along the way. From here we rappel down the waterfall for a much needed cooling off. After our exhilarating rappel, we head back to our lodge for lunch. Note: An easier hike to Bocawina Falls and rappel is available. All waterfall rappelling is weather dependent.
Our adventure continues this afternoon when we soar with the birds through the pristine jungle canopy on the longest zip-line course in Belize. The course, that is easily accessible from our lodge, provides a different perspective of Belize’s unique jungle ecosystem. All meals included.
Hiking: 2 or 4 miles, approximately 1 to 3 hour(s). Terrain: Uneven trails that may include slippery or rocky sections. Rappelling: approximately 1.5 hours; Zip-line tour: approximately 1.5 hours
Meals: B, L, D
Day 3: Discover the many cultures of Belize.
Belize is a treasure trove of ancient Mayan temples, towns and cities and this morning we venture deeper into this ancient civilization. Among many other accomplishments, the Mayans of Central America are believed to be the first to discover cocoa, and at the Maya Center, we visit with modern day Mayans as well as create our own chocolate. Later, we experience more local flavor with an authentic Belizean lunch. This afternoon, we launch our kayaks and glide along the Sittee River. This diverse ecosystem is home to birdlife and iguanas sunbathing on mangrove branches. Our paddle eventually leads us to Hopkins Village, a Garifuna community by the sea. The Garifuna are descendants of West and Central African, Carib and Arawak people. Hopkins is a picturesque village with colorfully painted, raised clapboard houses. Tonight, after dinner, we enjoy a jungle walk for those interested in spotting the nocturnal creatures that inhabit the jungle. All meals included.
Kayaking: 2 – 2.5 hours; Driving: 2.5 hours
Meals: B, L, D
Day 4-7: Set off for Glover's Atoll to kayak and snorkel this rich reef system.
We depart early in the morning by charter boat to our unique basecamp on Southwest Caye at Glover’s Reef Marine Reserve. Once we arrive, we receive an introduction to our new environment before settling into our ocean view tent cabana. Before we gear up any water activity, our guides give us professional instruction in the fundamentals of sea kayaking, snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and water safety in the tropics. After the instruction, enjoy a paddle to a nearby patch reef and start exploring some of the 700 snorkel sites Glover’s Atoll has to offer. Due to Glover’s isolation from the mainland, the waters are exceptionally clear with a fabulously rich reef system. We spend the days exploring the atoll with both kayaks rigged for sailing. On our kayaking outings, expect to spend 2-5 hours paddling in total, with time in the boat split up by meal breaks and snorkeling opportunities. Our itinerary is flexible to respond to the best weather conditions. All meals included.
Activities may include kayaking, snorkeling and stand up paddle boarding: 4-5 hours per day.
Meals: B, L, D
Day 8: Witness one last tropical sunrise before heading back to mainland Belize.
Many choose to wake up early this morning and, for the last time, watch the sunrise over the atoll before enjoying a hearty breakfast. Our boat charter departs mid-morning back to the mainland with an estimated arrival around noon in Dangriga where we transfer to the airport for our domestic flight to Belize City. To allow enough time for the boat ride from our beach camp to the mainland and the flight from Dangriga to Belize City, plan to depart out of Belize City after 2:30pm. Breakfast and boxed lunch included.
Boat transfer: 1-2 hours; Domestic flight: 20 minutes

End place: Belize City
