Spend three days snowshoeing into the heart of the White Mountains. Mountain adventurers, rejoice; this snowshoeing journey to Zealand Falls is the perfect way to extend the hiking season. Our adventure takes us to New Hampshire's White Mountains on an exceptional loop from picturesque Crawford Notch to the remote, snow-covered Zealand Valley and back. With our packs loaded, we traverse this physically-demanding loop, passing breathtaking views, stunning peaks and forests blanketed in winter’s glow. Our route links a number of classic trails in the area. We hike over fairly rugged terrain involving challenging ascents and optional detour hikes. Our expert guides have dialed in every detail of the journey and provide in-depth information about the area. Enjoy rustic lodging at the remote Zealand Falls Hut as well as a comfortable night at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Highland Center. With new adventures brings new friends and the chance to experience the White Mountains in all their winter wonderland glory.

Day 1: Meet at Crawford Notch for dinner and a trip orientation.
Arrive at the Highland Center Lodge in Crawford Notch, New Hampshire between 3pm and 5pm today. This four-season lodge is an outdoor education center that showcases green construction and energy efficient design. Meet your guides and fellow travelers at 5:30pm for dinner, then regroup to review the trip itinerary, on-trail safety protocols and the gear list to ensure you are well prepared for the hikes. The Highland Center has a gear room, where gear can be borrowed on a first-come basis only and is subject to availability. Dinner included.

Day 2: Hit the trail for our first taste of the beautiful White Mountains.
Our morning starts with a full buffet breakfast at the Highland Center. We then gather to review last-minute details and distribute sack lunches and group food. Our route to Zealand Falls Hut is chosen based on several factors including weather, trail conditions and group makeup. Regardless of final trail selection, our first day snowshoeing will provide a wonderful introduction to the picturesque White Mountains. Once at Zealand Falls Hut, we settle into co-ed bunkrooms and eat a family-style dinner. A cold-weather sleeping bag, extra clothing layers and a headlamp are essential for your stay as bunkrooms are unheated and have no lighting. All meals included.

Day 3: A day of discovery awaits as we explore New Hampshire’s backcountry​.
Your guides will introduce today’s route, which is determined by weather, trail conditions and group makeup. The most rugged mountain chain in New England, the White Mountains offer numerous opportunities to take in gorgeous winter scenery while snowshoeing along challenging trails. Options may include a hike to a remote mountain summit, or a trek to an isolated waterfall. After a day outside, we return to Zealand Falls Hut for another family-style dinner and time to reflect with new friends. All meals Included.

Day 4: Snowshoe back to the Highland Center and farewells to new friends.
We have breakfast and pack up, then set out for a return journey to the Highland Center. Our route is again determined by weather, trail conditions and group makeup. We plan to return to the Center between 2pm and 4pm. Lunch may be on the trail or at the Center. We return any group gear and prepare for the trip home. Or, extend your stay for another night at the Highland Center at the AMC member rate discount. If you are flying home tonight, please allow extra time for uncertainties related to weather and other factors beyond our control. Breakfast and lunch included.
